The ISSHIN Theory

First off, let's go to the beginning a 100 years ago. Back then the second division was second only to the first division in terms of sheer power (pretty obvious since yama controls both gotei13 and kido corps, whilst the second division controls the special forces) . So anyway, when yoruichi left Yama/CENTRAL 46 in a definite case of cruel and unusual punishment decides rather than remove the shihoin name from the list of noble families decides to humiliate the family name by reducing the power of the special forces(which is essentially the legacy of the shihoin family)
Therefore, it was ordered that the special forces were broken up, all links between shihoin and the special forces were removed by destroying the status quo, and as a final insult an anti-shihoin installed as commander(Soifon). I came to this conclusion by looking at the differences between the second division then and now. The main person to look at is VC Omaeda- anyone here truly think this guy can be a VC let alone commander of one the the special forces divisions? Therefore the only possible conclusion is that seated officers were stripped of their power in regards to the special forces.

And in the process of stripping the shihoin of their power in the special forces some underlings (noble seated officers who traditionally served the shihoin e.g. the Fons and Uraharas) were promoted to captains to eliminate their age long relationship with the second division, special forces and of course the shihoin
So where does Isshin fit into the equation I hear you say? Well, my theory is that Isshin was a former seated officer in the second division( havn't got a clue about the number) from the fact that he is incredibly strong – fitting of a commander in the special forces like kisuke who if you remember is the commander of the Detention Unit and also the fact that no one knows a thing about the Second division ( think Hiyori when Urahara became captain) thereby it is only sensible that Shinji is unable to recognise Isshin Rieatsu.
So, as before Isshin got promoted to become none other than the captain of the third division. In his capacity as the third division captain he tried to keep a close eye on Aizen. Why? Because during the investigation of Urahara, yoruichi who was in charge of the investigation sent the commander-Isshin of the investigation division( or whatever the name of the division in charge of the investigation was) to the scene of the crime and to report directly to her before anyone else. Upon reaching the scene of the fight Isshin discovers Aizen’s VC badge conflicting with reports of Aizen being in SS. Confused it is reported to Yoruichi who on impulse saves Urahara.
So what happened? Isshin taking especially close interest in Aizen noticed something happening the moment it started to happen 50 years ago. ARRANCARS!! This is how I think things went
50 Years Ago
1.Aizen made his first breakthrough … live arrancar e.g. (grandfisher, hollow who killed Kaien, and those which attacked Renji and co. while in the academy) unlike hybrids before which die immediately or died later e.g. Shinji and co.
2.Isshin investigate arrancar- is ambushed by Privaron espada.
3. Isshin defeats arrancar with ease killing all except the three we have now
4. Aizen with Gin’s backing personally attacks Isshin
5. Isshin is hollowfied with Aizen’s breakthrough.
6. Isshin gets hollow self who toasts Aizen
7. Isshin escapes and manages to find Urahara
8. Aizen activates shikai, removes all trace of fight
9. Isshin presumed by SS to be defeated, investigation unit sent , no evidence of Isshin found. Central/Yama waits before replacing him

1. Isshin presumed dead, Gin is promoted (along with Byakuya)

1. Urahara tries to make up for past mistakes, creates gigai which reconnects soul chain removing hollow (and unwittingly shinigami ) powers so Isshin can return to warn SS.
Isshin being “Hollow will be hollows and Shinigamis will be shinigamis” agrees. Loses all powers in process
Not too long ago
- Urahara discovers way to turn humans to shinigami
- Urahara creates cave- Isshin undergoes shinigami training. Isshin becomes first human to become shinigami
ps: i have an alternative theory similar to this just that he is a shiba and the VC of the second division and when yoruichi left the shiba were promoted into the four noble houses due to their strength in kido and Isshin being the strongest leader in the shiba clan ever who with his ability in kido is able to replicate shunko. Isshin becomes second division commander, the story continues as follows. When facing Isshin Aizen uses Shunko ripping his haori to shreds.
I like my latter theory as with shunko the back of the clothes is destroyed therefore it makes sense that he has that band on his arm to keep his haori when it tears
